Applying for a Marriage License

Couples looking to be married in New York State can purchase a license from the Geneva City Clerk’s Office anytime Monday thru Friday between 8:30am and 4:00pm at 47 Castle Street, 1st Floor.  Couples are asked to call a day or two before to let us know they are coming so we are sure to have someone in the office to assist them.  This includes needing a translator for assistance.

The couple must come in together to purchase the license at least 24 hours before the ceremony and no more than 60 days before.

The couple must bring with them (1) their certified birth certificates with a raised seal and parent’s names, (2) picture ID (like a driver’s license), and (3) if either of them has ever been married before, they would need to bring in a certified copy of their divorce decree or former spouse’s death certificate.

*Please note that any documents in a language other than English must include a certified translation*

Our fee is $40, and we take cash or check.  If credit or debit card is used, there is an additional transaction fee.
